26th January 2015 (Week 17)

"Colours - Group Assignment"

For this group assignment, my group members assigned to me are Jennie Liandra, the leader, June Chew, Selin, Sabrina Shah, and I. We had to choose a colour, and do an interview with people that are not related to design, and ask them about how that colour relates to them and their culture. Then, we had to do some research online to find out about 3 cultures and the colour's meaning to each culture, and then make an A3 sized poster through our research. Lastly, we had to come up with a game that uses the colour in some way as to give a meaning for it, for example as a punishment or as a reward.

The colour our group decided on was the colour Sky Blue, as it was a special colour, rather than just having blue, which is a very common colour.

For the interview, each group member interviewed one person, and here is the video of the interview:

As for the poster, we searched and found out that:
i. In Russia, the colour sky blue represents homosexuality.
ii. In Belgium, sky blue is used for baby girls while pink is used for baby boys.
iii. In Christian culture, the colour sky blue signifies virtue, as mother Mary wears a sky blue shawl.

Finally, we created a game that is similar to darts, but uses a ball that has velcro attached to it instead of using darts. And the board is a sky blue sky with clouds and birds on it. The rule of the game is that you throw the ball at the board and you are given 3 chances. If you:
i. Hit the sky, you will have to be punished. The punishment includes taking a selfie with a stranger, complimenting a stranger, and shaking hands with a stranger.
ii. Hit any of the clouds twice, you will be rewarded with a mentos.
iii. Hit a bird, depending on the size, you will be rewarded with mentos. The smallest bird will earn you 6 mentos while the largest bird will win you 1 mentos.

Here is the video of the game:
