11.4.14 (Week 2)
Casey Chong (0318756)
"Photographs and Photographers" and "Presentation of Mr.Vinod's 10 best-liked Pictures"

Lecture:
Today, Mr.Vinod showed us a presentation of some of his favourite photopgraphers and a few of their work. The photographers that he showed us were Herb Rittz, Raghu Rai, Mark Seliger, Prabuddha Dasgupta, Richard Avedon, Issey Miyake, and Manoj Jadhov. He told us about the details of their work and what do they mainly work on, such as black-and-white pictures and taking potrait photoes. Mr.Vinod also gave us a presentation about his 10 best-liked pictures and gave us brief explainations about the photographs that he likes. He also showed us some parts of the videos that my classmates and I have made for the previous exercise, which is exercise 1. He also discussed the videos with us during the class, especially on the aspect if we like or dislike a certain photograph and why we like or dislike that particular photograph.
Overall of the semester, Mr.Vinod wants us to achieve something where we not only take the normal things, but also go the extra mile and go beyond the normal. He hopes that his students can achieve something and go beyond the normal things in life and hopefully get inspired by photography.

Feedback:
Specific feedback:
The feedback Mr.Vinod gave to me was that I did a good attempt at writing my reflection in my previous blog post, and he told me to keep improving and to try to stick within the parameters of the topic that was discussed on that day, because I was going quite off topic in my previous ePortfolio post. On the other hand, Mr.Vinod said that other points of reflection unrelated are welcome. Any suggestions with regards to the teaching and learning experience during his class (which is anything with regard to Mr.Vinod's delivery of the topic or presentation- if he was teaching too fast or or slow during class) are also welcome, and I personally think that class is very interesting and Mr.Vinod's teaching tecniques are helpful.

General feedback:
The feedback that Mr.Vinod gave to our class is that we should all make sure that we complete our ePortfolios by Wednesday midnight on the following week of the class so that he could check our ePortfolios on Thursday and give us his feedback on Friday morning during Introduction to Photography class.

Reflection:
Experience:
My experience from this presentation lecture is that we can learn more as a group rather than individually. For example, when someone in the class does not understand something, he or she will ask the lecturer and the lecturer will answer the student in return. When the lecturer answers the student's question, the entire class will get the answer and learn from that one student's question. I have therefore observed that the more questions you ask, or the more you discuss, the more you will understand something better.

Observation:
From this week's lecture and presentation, I have observed that with a good lighting, a better picture can be observed than in a place with bad lighting. I have observed that in the pictures that Mr.Vinod had shared with us during the presentation lecture. Most of the photographs that he presented were taken in good lighting. Only professional photographers can manage to take pictures that are good in bad lighting.
I have also observed various photographs from the other students in my class. I observed their styles and what kind of photographs they like. I have these observations because Mr.Vinod asked us to share our thoughts on our various classmates' 10 best-liked pictures and he also shared his thoughts on all of our video presentations too.

Findings:
From these experiences and observations, I have found out a lot about my classmates, especially on what their photography style is, for example whether they like coloured photographs or black-and-white photographs more.
I have also found out that we can gain more learning experience if we have curious minds and frequently ask questions based on the topic that is discussed on that day, and that we can learn more from each other as a large group of active learners that are not afraid to learn new things.
As Mr.Vinod says,"If you want to achieve something that's different or extraordinary, you have to go the extra mile." just like one of the photographers that he admires that went to a very dangerous city just to document the lives of the "outlaws" in the city. To do that, one must be very brave to go the extra mile.
